Ill Street Blues was great it had alot of reality in the book. Life in the streets is hard and either you can find a way out like Lex was doing. Or you can play in the game until the end like Uno and Pete were doing. Also, the book shows what men, such as Bum have to go through with females in the streets like Keisha a drama queen baby momma looking for a come up but the book also shows the bighter side to women such as Misa who was just looking for that companion with no strings attached.

Ill Street Blues Joe Martin 9780615338774 Books Reviews

Ill Street Blues is one of the best and realest books I've read in a while. It keeps you hanging on to see what happens next. Being from Buffalo this is realistic of things that happen in the city. I recommend that you read this book, you won't be able to put it down!
Come take a journey on these Ill Street Blues by Joe Martin. As a child in Buffalo, N.Y., Bum struggled day to day, growing up with hardly anything to call his own. As he got older, these ill streets were calling his name with all the money that could be made by selling drugs and anything else to bring in the money. He runs with a clique they call the "Young Guns," which included him and his two men Mojo and Bumpkin. With all of the money that he's making, there are others on the streets plotting to take him down.

Being born into the game and with his father being one of the biggest dealers in town, it comes natural to Lex to want to follow in his father's footsteps. Money is far from his motive because his family has plenty of it. He is torn between the streets and the fame he has on the football field. His high comes more from being the top five for the NFL draft. Just when Lex is about to let the streets go, something horrific happens.

Billy D is Lex's cousin. Billy D is a hit man for hire and as cold blooded as they come. As a young child, he was a witness to his father's murder, and he still has nightmares from it. When one of the members of the Young Guns is murdered by some rivals, they are out for revenge. When everything is all said and done, who is going to be left standing?

Ill Street Blues by Joe Martin was a typical street-lit novel in that it was filled with money, drugs and murder. They are fighting over streets that they do not own to sell drugs to the innocent, and they do it all for the love of money. Although it was a typical read, I see this author having the potential to have a five star read. Mr. Martin definitely knows how to keep the reader engrossed and how to weave a tale. The ending of the book kind of confused me as well. Unfortunately, I just did not feel that Ill Street Blues stood out from the rest of the pack.
Bum grew up plagued by misfortune in his life. Now at age 24 Bum is a father of three. He is doing well selling his drug of choice on the streets, making mega money but keeping his flossing to a minimum. Bum, portrays a laid back attitude to outsiders but beware of this cool cat when hate, jealousy and greed penetrates his personal space and puts his life and freedom in jeopardy!

With his father OG Bank still making big power moves in the street, Lex was born into the game and knows it inside out. Of course Lex is destined to follow in his father's very large foot steps. But Lex has another interest that seems to fester as he matures. Football is Lex's passion and Lex is NFL bound! But will he be able to pursue his athletic dream or will the streets swallow him up?

Billy D is a handsome dude, but please don't let his looks fool you! Billy D has plenty of bodies to his name...he is the "go to" hired gun! Selling drugs is too boring for Billy D, he needs the rush of murder to get his adrenaline going. Billy D is the cousin to Lex and they are as close as brothers. When Billy D gets a call that Lex's father Bank is in jail, a revelation is revealed that causes a chain reaction bringing this drama to a dynamic peek!

See, THIS is what I call `Street Lit" A story where characters are well developed and emotional, the reader can even connect with the bad guys. A good plot that brings to light the love of a family and the repercussions their life choices have on each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read! I liked the relationship Bum had with Misa. Keisha was a pain from the beginning but wow!! Now that the family secret is revealed I am looking for the sequel to this drama!
My only advice to author Joe Martin is to tighten up the editing on the second printing for a flawless novel

A recommended read.

This is one of the best novels I've read. The story lines are really good and the characters makes you want to luv them alot.
This book was one of the realest street lits I have read in a long while. The characters are believable, its not too far fecthed or unrealistic. It's alot of money, murder, drugs and sex, which I hate to say is entertaining. Can't wait for part 2.
I was over whelmed reading this book. The book was constructed very well, but most importantly the focus was on street life(drugs, money and life ).what a person can gain and how it can have a permanent affect and destroy families. The author certainly understand the nature of drugs vs life and the impact it has on families. This book is a must read for families especially if you have children and you are concerned about their future.
